Infant and Young Child Feeding Training

This training course aims to enhance the competencies and build capacity of UNICEF staff and counterparts who are involved in Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programmes in developing countries. This includes programme development, programme implementation, programme evaluation, and other related activities for improving nutrition and health outcomes of infants and young children.

The training course consists of 12 units, including 9 lectures and 3 case studies:

Essentials of IYCF

  1. Undernutrition Basics
  2. Role of IYCF in Child Survival, Growth And Development
  3. Essentials of Breastfeeding
  4. Essentials of Complementary Feeding

Programming

  1. Comprehensive IYCF Programming
  2. Selected Interventions for Improving Breastfeeding
  3. Selected Interventions for Improving Complementary Feeding

Special Topics

  1. IYCF in Emergencies
  2. IYCF in the Context of HIV/AIDS

Case Studies

  1. Case Study - Country 1
  2. Case Study - Country 2
  3. Case Study - Country 3

After completing the training, you should have:

  • Awareness of up-to-date knowledge about IYCF.
  • Ability to interpret data and describe population-based problems related to infant and young child feeding.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate IYCF research, programmes, and policies to supervisors, partners, and national governments.
  • Awareness of best practices to coordinate/facilitate/manage action on recommended IYCF research, programmes, and policies.
  • Awareness of best practices to incorporate IYCF initiatives with emerging issues.
After completing all 12 units, the final exam and a course evaluation survey, you will receive a personalized certificate of completion worth 12 continuing professional education units.
