Land Use Planning Researcher
The ECOLAND Research Centre at the Royal University of Agriculture is working on a collaborative project with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Sansom Mlup Prey (SMP) and the University of Oxford to investigate local understanding and perceptions of land use planning in Preah Vihear province. This project will contribute to efforts to improve farmer livelihoods and conserve the natural environment in Cambodia.
The Land Use Planning Researcher will be contracted by the ECOLAND Research Centre to undertake this research, liaising closely with all project partners and other stakeholders as required.
Period of employment: 6 months
Salary: $500-700 per month, depending on experience
Location: Phnom Penh, with extended periods in Preah Vihear for fieldwork
Principal responsibilities:
- Develop research protocols to investigate local understanding and perceptions
- Conduct the research in selected villages in Preah Vihear province
- Analyse all data collected
- Produce a report on the research findings to be submitted before the end of the Researcher’s contract
- Disseminate research findings at national research workshop
- Ensure that project research ethics protocols are followed throughout the research
- Coordinate effectively with project partners WCS, SMP and Oxford University, including in the planning and development of research protocols
Required skills and experience:
- Masters degree in Agriculture, land use planning, conservation or similar field, or at least five years work experience
- Proven experience planning social research and undertaking interviews
- Good analytical skills and experience analysing both qualitative and quantitative data
- Good coordination, communication, organisation and problem‐solving skills
- Excellent Khmer and English skills, including spoken, written, reading and listening
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of research data
- Willingness to work in rural village contexts
