The IWMF is pleased to announce new opportunities for women journalists
in 2016. Applications are now open for IWMF reporting trips to South
Sudan and Tanzania, and for the next round of funding under the Howard
G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists.
All three applications have February deadlines.
REPORTING TRIPS
Six women journalists will report on development and humanitarian issues in South Sudan. Concurrently, another group of six journalists will cover stories related to conservation in Tanzania. Both trips will take place May 1-14, 2016. All Fellows will begin their trip in Nairobi, Kenya, where they will complete comprehensive security training and an orientation about the African Great Lakes region and focus countries.

through February 12, 2016. The reporting trips are part of the African
Great Lakes Reporting Initiative, created in 2014 and designed to
support women journalists interested in pursuing stories that go beyond
the well-established narratives of political instability, armed
conflicts, and humanitarian crisis in the region.
FUND
The IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists – now in its second year – supports projects including educational opportunities, investigative reporting, and media development initiatives. The first round of funding is open now for submission and will close February 17. This year the IWMF will make $230,000 worth of small grants to support women journalists in their projects and endeavors during two rounds of funding. We encourage you to read the 2016 grant guide
