MEGEI - MA Economics of Globalisation and European Integration

The M.A. is an advanced programme in economics aimed at students interested in research careers at the university, careers in government and international organisations and in research and strategy departments of large banks and industrial and commercial corporations. The advanced level is ensured by the link of the MA with the ongoing research of the teachers on the Programme, as witnessed by the regular organisation of scientific conferences and workshops by the partners on the
subject of the MA, and by the presence of the teachers in international professional journals.

The programme consists of 60 ECTS credits, the taught part of the programme consisting of 45 credits and the dissertation having a weight of 15 credits. The subjects covered by the programme are: Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, International Trade: Theory and Policy,
Economics of European Integration, Open Economy Macroeconomics, Economics of Globalisation and Applied Econometrics. Local language courses (French, Dutch, Czech, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese) are offered as optionals. Optionals in the core subjects of the MA are offered as well. The study-programme is full-time and runs over a year. The vehicle language of the programme is English. It is jointly taught and organised by a consortium of seven European universities (Universiteit Antwerpen (BE), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BE), Staffordshire University (UK), Universidad de Cantabria (ES), Università degli Studi di Bari ‘Aldo Moro’ (IT), Université de Lille 1 (FR) andVysoká Škola Ekonomická v Praze (Prague University of Economics) (CZ)) and two non-EU universities (Xiamen University (P.R. China) and Universidade de Brasília (Brazil)). The academic year runs over three trimesters, according to a rotation scheme in which every partner university acts as a host university every three years.

Each academic year professors of all the partners universities participate in the teaching of the courses of the Programme. During the last term the students finalise their dissertation, which must be handed in on September 30 at the latest. The programme is fully accredited and leads to an MA Economics of Globalisation and European Integration. The consortium diplomas are jointly awarded by the partners and signed by the Rector/President/Vice-chancellor of all partner universities. Applicants should minimally have earned 240 ECTS credits in economics or applied economic studies or a bachelor degree that is deemed equivalent in their national context and should be fluent in English (minimum 110 for the internet-based TOEFL test, or 6.5 on a IELTS test). The selection of the entrants to the programme takes place through a centralised procedure. The main selection criterion is academic performance. A maximum of 45 students is allowed.
