Building
Capacity For The Future
Overview
For most development organizations, project management only deals with implementation of activities designed during the project’s proposal for funding and with keeping track of budget expenditures, but little effort is devoted to plan the various management processes that make up a project.
Project Management and Development is more than just implementing the activities identified in a logical framework. It includes the management of limited resources to ensure that the project meets its objectives within the expected timeframe, quality and budget, at the same time as meeting the expectations of its stakeholders.
Overall Objectives:
This course examines fundamental theories, principles, perspectives, and practices of controlling/managing the Project Cycle Management. An effective manager achieves better development results with the people in the community they serve, affecting the well-being of poor people.
This course aims to helping organizations do the right projects and helping managers do the projects right by taking a holistic view. The project/program managers are better prepared to understand the external factors that will impact the project. Participants will explore different ideas and cases while employing critical thinking and reflection of the experience, linking theory to practice. This linking will lead to action plans and guide the participant’s current and future practice as development managers. It will influence how they lead others in technical and relational aspects of work.
Specific Purposes:
At the end of this training course, participants are able:
- Participants have ability and skill to develop their existing projects or a new project which is appropriate to the workplace.
- Participants have ability to manage for basic constraints, scope, schedule, budget and quality.
- Participants will learn from practice, experienced practitioners, fellow students and through the analysis of cases, viewing how effective managers help groups realize their potential.
- Become more aware of and question personal, organizational, and community assumptions about how we work as development professionals in light of the need to demonstrate development results in our country.
- Identify opportunities where learnt principles and skills may be applied immediately in practice to work.
- Become better consumers of management tools in order to avoid fads and gimmicks.
