The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global and regional environmental agenda, promotes coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Bangkok is one of UN Environment’s regional offices. The Asia and Pacific regional office supervises activities, projects and implementations in 41 countries across the region by initiating, coordinating and catalysing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies. It works in close partnership with key stakeholders including governments, private sector, civil society, and other UN agencies, and is attentive to the headquarters’ requirements in Nairobi.

The Regional Programme Management Support internship is for six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days (35-40 hours) per week under the supervision of staff member in the office to which there are assigned. 

Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the Supervision of Programme Management Officer, the intern will:


- Perform research and analysis of regional and national environmental issues relevant to projects in the region (i.e marine litter, ecosystem management, air pollution, sustainable consumption, etc), and develop informative documents relating to those projects;
- Support Regional Programme Management Officer in information and database management;
- Support the regional office by developing country profiles and bilateral briefs;
- Support project managers with project proposals conceptualization and drafting, interviews, meeting minutes, and PowerPoint presentations,
- Perform other duties as required.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), preferably enrolled in an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) with a focus on environmental sciences, natural resource management or international relations;
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
d. Be computer literate in standard software applications;
e. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
f. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
 
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience.
 
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is essential, Knowledge of another U.N. language or an Asian language is desirable.
