School background:
Gateway to Khmer (G2K) is a Khmer language school teaching foreigners living in Cambodia, and we are committed to providing the very best quality language and culture education available. The school offers a comprehensive learning program, highly trained teachers and regular student assessments.

We want to enable expatriates in Cambodia to thrive, to integrate well into their new communities, to meet, work with and serve people using local language, and to do so with respect for Khmer culture.

The school opened in 2014, and our students are diverse in nationality and purpose in Cambodia. While most work for NGO’s, schools, and church/ mission organisations, others work for international agencies, private businesses or simply have a personal interest in learning Khmer.

Role summary:
As the Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) your role will be to oversee staff-focused personal, professional and spiritual development, and related activities and processes. The role-holder will build strong relationships with G2K’s Khmer staff with the aim to mentor, coach and upskill, and also provide pastoral support to individuals where needed.

You will also work closely with Senior Management, the Finance and Admin Coordinator (FAC) and the Student Services Coordinator (SSC), regarding staff-related administration and processes.

Responsible to: Director of Operations (DOPS)

Essential duties and responsibilities (to be considered indicative of job role only, not an exhaustive list of tasks and duties):

Human Resources
  • Work with Directors regarding core HR processes, including appraisals, reviews, observations, disciplinaries etc;
  • Assess core competencies required for roles;
  • Oversee development of individual mentoring plans;
  • Oversee development of a Khmer-to-Khmer mentoring programme;
  • Critically review current HR processes and tools;
  • Where required, create and/ or streamline tools, resources and processes related to staff development and staff-related data tracking;
  • Develop and roll-out SMART targets for staff;
  • Work with DOPS and FAC to ensure all HR records are complete and up to date;
  • Oversee recruitment process, where required;
  • Coordinate rollout and analysis of staff feedback survey;
  • Other admin tasks as required.
Personal & team development
  • Coaching – regularly meet with staff to understand goals, set objectives and work with them to see outputs and goals achieved;
  • Coordinate staff training - schedule trainers and/ or deliver training according to the needs of the staff team or the business;
  • Coordinate social and teambuilding events, also supporting the G2K social committee with planning when required;
  • In collaboration with Coordinator of Student Services, coordinate and/ or deliver content of Staff Retreat, and support with logistics as needed;
  • Coordinate voting, presentations and interviews for Staff of the Module;
  • Other personal and team development tasks and projects as required.
Spiritual development
  • Coordinate staff prayer/ devotions/ 'thought for the week' style sessions/ intermissions;
  • Support the start-up of a regular Khmer-led bible study/ devotional;
  • Discipleship of Khmer staff;
  • Commit to praying for G2K and staff at least weekly;
  • Coordinate partner prayer support/ newsletter;
  • Other spiritual development tasks and projects as required.
External representation & customer service
  • Represent G2K externally as needed, including marketing and promotional events, presentations, discussions and other meetings;
  • Alongside entire staff-team, provide excellent customer service to students as needed, escalating to DOS/ DOPS as appropriate.
Other
  • Any other tasks required to ensure the smooth running of teaching programmes and excellent customer service at G2K;
  • All G2K staff are expected to be flexible and undertake tasks to assist colleagues as required.

Essential skills, experience and attributes required to succeed in this role:
  1. A good listener with an approachable personality;
  2. Able to offer a safe and supportive space for staff during challenging personal life events and/ or issues;
  3. A committed Christian, regularly attending a Christian church in Phnom Penh;
  4. Experience in Christian spiritual leadership roles;
  5. Strong English – speaking, listening, reading and writing;
  6. Good Khmer – speaking and listening;
  7. Experience of cross-cultural living and working;
  8. Understanding of Khmer culture;
  9. Experience managing projects and/ or programmes;
  10. Strong experience and proficiency using standard office software – for example Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, along with web-based tools/ activities such as email, cloud-based apps and storage, online research etc;
  11. Ability to anticipate change and react efficiently;
  12. Ability to multi-task, complete tasks in a timely manner/ within deadlines and manage time effectively with little supervision;
  13. Demonstrates critical thinking and uses initiative to complete tasks and solve problems.
The ideal candidate will also have:
  1. Higher education qualification in a related field;
  2. Experience working in a professional, target driven environment;
  3. HR experience in a professional environment;
  4. Experience developing personal and professional development tools and plans;
  5. Experience of coaching;
  6. Understanding of mentoring approaches and practices;
  7. Proficiency in another regional language common in Cambodia would be an advantage, but not required (for example: Japanese, Korean, Mandarin).
Further information:

  • Full Visa and Work Permit is available for a non-Khmer candidate. In this case, a job offer would be cancelled at any point if the appointee is not successful in obtaining both.
Location:
Our school location: 109-111 St Silver, Sovanna Mall Precinct, Phnom Penh
Normal working hours:
8am – 5pm. This is a full time role, with occasional evening and weekend working as required, but normal working hours may be flexible for the right candidate (4 – 5 days full time equivalent).

Salary/ allowance:
Negotiable, depending on experience/ circumstances.

Contract:
1 year (after successfully completing a probation period), renewable based on performance.
