Channel - small grants round

Four grants of $2,500 are available
for projects that support members of LGBTIQ+ communities to tell their stories or have their voices heard.

This is The Channel’s first ever ‘small grants round’, so we’re doing things a little differently this time. Expressions of Interest will be in the form of a short (2 minutes max.) video, with some supplementary written responses to a few basic questions.

Guidelines

We will look favorably upon projects that:
  • are willing to take a risk / agitate for change / get way outside the comfort zone!
  • are smaller and community-led;
  • take an intersectional approach;
  • focus on areas that are particularly under-funded and/or have low awareness;
  • have marginalised LGBTIQ+ communities at their centre, eg. refugees and asylum seekers, people of colour, Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, trans and gender diverse people etc.
  • tell your story, or the story of people from a community with which you identify.
Your video submission must be under 2 minutes and must cover three points:
  1. Who are you / what is the community group you represent?
  2. How will $2,500 support you to tell your story or have your voice heard (what will you do)?
  3. Who in the community will this benefit and how (what will the outcome be)?
Do not spend any money on editing or producing your video. We are looking for lo-fi submissions shot on your smart phone. Be creative, but not with an expensive camera or editing software.

If you don’t want to show a moving image, you can submit a video of a still image with a voice over. Do what will communicate the nature of your project most effectively / what you're most comfortable with.
