The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (www.ciat.cgiar.org)
works to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human nutrition in the
tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of
agriculture. CIAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium (www.cgiar.org), a
global research partnership for a food secure future. The Center’s
research focuses on improving key crops (cassava, common bean, rice, and
tropical forages); reversing soil and land degradation; and using
information to foster better decisions about issues such as climate
change and environmental management. Headquartered near Cali, Colombia,
CIAT has regional offices in Nairobi (Kenya), and Hanoi (Vietnam), with
staff posted in other developing countries as well.
The Position
The Program Management Officer assists
the Director for Asia in regional management particularly in research
program development, resource mobilization and partnership building.
He/she works closely with the regional research team by providing
management support to a growing portfolio of research projects in Asia
covering: a) cassava in value chains, b) forages and livestock, and c)
integrated farming systems and resilient agri-landscapes. The position
is internationally recruited and based at the CIAT Asia Regional Office
in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes regional trends, needs and opportunities in Asia’s agricultural development sector
- Leads and facilitates team-based research grant writing and project proposal preparation
- Manages regional support services for research planning-implementation-reporting and facilitates improved access to corporate services by research teams
- Assists in institutional representation, partnership building and donor engagement
Requirements
- PhD in a discipline related to agriculture/rural development, or MSc with at least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in program planning and development and/or coordination of research support services in science-oriented organizations
- Knowledge of Asia’s agricultural development sector including relevant policies, institutions and stakeholders
- Agile communicator - excellent technical writing and presentation skills and advanced English- language proficiency
- Demonstrated capacity to work with interdisciplinary teams in a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment
- Flexibility in work schedule, ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to travel locally/internationally
- Previous living/working experience in Asia is an advantage
Terms of Employment
The initial contract will be for two (2)
years, subject to a probation period of six (6) months, and is
renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. CIAT
