Purpose of the Job: To shape a stronger Oxfam for people living in poverty.

Oxfam, one of the leading global development organizations, mobilizes the power of people against poverty. We are a diverse confederation of 17 strongly interconnected national affiliates working in over 90 countries, either directly, or with partners to enable transformational change, using a unique combination of long-term development, campaigning and humanitarian programs. In the Latin America Region, the threats to people living in poverty and to human rights are many, varied, and complex.

Latin America and the Caribbean are currently at a crossroads: if, on the one hand, we are witnessing a reduction in poverty and relative economic growth, on the other hand, we view with concern the increased vulnerability of men and women in terms of climate change and food insecurity. There are still enormous disparities between the countries in the region in terms of the size and structure of their economies, levels of vulnerability of their populations, and the degree to which their rights are respected and protected. In spite of the reduction of inequality in some countries, it remains still one of the most unequal regions on the planet. Oxfam's work reviews these challenges, aiming for systemic changes that will address the structural causes of inequality and poverty, seeking, together with our allies and counterparts, to strengthen the realization of rights through active citizenship and effective States – always placing women’s rights at the core of our work.

Oxfam is currently undergoing a period of transformational change that envisions a future where we are a more interdependent network, driven more by knowledge, organized for more simplicity internally and more globally balanced. Oxfam strives to have affiliates in southern countries that can raise their own funds, run their own programs, form their own alliances with local people’s movements, and lobby their own governments and businesses.
In order to help drive and deliver this ambitious vision in Latin America, we are currently seeking an outstanding and distinctive Regional Director. This leader will have demonstrable strategic and creative leadership, management and coordination skills in a network setting, a multi-cultural worldview and understand the systemic challenges and strengths of being a global organization. Excellent communication skills, including fluency in Spanish and English are essential.
Are you the exceptional leader we’re looking for?
The Regional Director will contribute to and implement Oxfam’s Global strategy, by providing vision and strategic direction to all of Oxfam’s work in the Region. This includes Oxfam’s humanitarian responses, long term development program design and implementation, advocacy and policy and influencing. He/She will be responsible and accountable for the strategic direction and effective management of the Region, ensuring development, continued improvement in quality and impact, and effective financial and human resource management in line with Oxfam Policy.
The focus of the Regional Director role will change over time from a management focus to one of increased facilitation and coordination of Oxfam Country programs as they move towards contributing to and shaping the future of Oxfam. This aims to create a stronger Oxfam that is globally coordinated and relevant in every country in which we work.

Oxfam is an equal opportunities employer. We particularly welcome applications from women and those from the global south, as they are under-represented at senior management level.
