The Global Crop Diversity Trust is seeking candidates for the position of: Director of Finance

The Director of Finance will be responsible for managing the finance and investment operations of the Trust, which includes supervision of income, investments, treasury functions, operational expenses and grant awards. The Director of Finance will report to the Executive Secretary of the Trust and perform the Secretariat role to the Finance and Investment Committee of the Executive Board of the Trust. The Director of Finance will be based at the Trust’s offices in Bonn, Germany. The specific responsibilities of the position are as follows:

• Contribute to the corporate management of the Organization through the development and implementation of the Organization’s strategy, program, policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures for the Organization; establish, implement and document systems and procedures for the effective management of all areas of the Organization’s finances.
• Establish systems for the provision of accurate and timely financial information; ensuring accurate and timely financial reports are provided to the project team, donors, the Finance & Investment Committee and the Executive Board.
• Analyze trends with respect to the Organization’s finances, identify areas of concern and make recommendations regarding the financial health of the Organization.
• Prepare the annual and multi-year budgets of the Organization.
• Maintain oversight of all investments made by the Organization, liaise with the independent financial advisor and investment fund managers and provide advice regarding any action needed in accordance with the Organization’s investment policies and procedures.
• Manage all treasury functions including receivables, payables, bank deposits and cash management.
• Maintain oversight of the grant award process.
• Advise and assist technical program staff in the planning, preparation and monitoring of budgets for projects and activities funded by the Organization.
• Manage the process of identifying the external auditors and liaise with the selected auditors with respect to the annual audit, ensuring they receive all of the information and documentation required; preparation of the Organization’s annual financial statements.
• Leadership and supervision of the Organization’s finance team.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and competencies

• University degree in finance, accounting, business administration or equivalent and a professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible experience, at least 8 years PQE, in a financial administrative, management or advisory capacity, preferably in an international environment.
• Proven experience and knowledge of international financial reporting practices as well as excellent analytical abilities in the review of policy and strategic issues.
• Excellent planning and organizational abilities, commitment to performance and timely delivery of results.
• Capacity to generate innovative solutions.
• Commitment to championing the Trust’s mission and core values (focus on results, integrity, professionalism, respect) and keeping these at the forefront of actions.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken (knowledge of German desirable but not essential).
• Proficiency in relevant software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience using database software).

Terms and Conditions: The Trust offers an attractive remuneration package including a competitive salary, non-contributory retirement savings plan, medical insurance and leave provisions. This is a Professional position classified as Level 5, in a scale of 6 Grade Levels with 6 being the highest. The salary range starts at Euro 90,000. All benefits are denominated and paid Euros. Relocation costs are covered for candidates who reside outside of the Bonn/Cologne or surrounding areas. The initial contract will be for a period of three years, subject to a probationary period of twelve months.
